I had the absolute honour and pleasure of styling a dessert table for my cousin Luka’s Baptism back in July. I had full creative control and wanted to do something really special. I also wanted to steer away from the traditional blue, white and silver colours used for boys, but still keep the theme and colours appropriate to the occasion. I thought a woodland theme would be perfect and loved the idea of using bold colours. My biggest consideration in planning the table was to keep it travel friendly, as everything had to fit within a 23kg suitcase to fly between Brisbane and Canberra.
For the decorations, I handmade the pinwheel fans using a tutorial I found on pinterest. Click here to see the tutorial. They travelled really well in the suitcase folded up and I just used some double sided tape to join the ends when I arrived and stuck them up with blue tac. I also ordered the hand cut wooden Luka sign from My Little Wish which also doubled as a keepsake for his nursery after the party was finished.

My original idea for the cake was for it to be three tiered with the bottom tier having ombre green fondant ruffles. Unfortunately, although my ruffled tier survived the flight down to Canberra, the fondant and gumpaste glue did not like the gas heater when I arrived and all the ruffle layers slid off my Styrofoam dummy right before of my eyes. It broke my heart to see so many hours spent making the ruffles just wasted Aside from losing the bottom tier, I am quite happy with how the cake came together. The cake was caramel mudcake with chocolate ganache and fondant and tasted delicious! The gorgeous milk cake stand was purchased from the lovely Leanne from Sweet Style for the table.

Here is a close up of the owl topper which was inspired by a gorgeous owl cake that I spotted on pinterest by The Designer Cake Company.

Keeping with the Woodland theme, I made chocolate cupcakes with a mint flavoured buttercream. The gorgeous toppers were custom made by Charli Mae. They were a big hit at the Baptism and were the first to go!

Angela from The Little Pop Shop custom made the cake pops which were chocolate orange flavoured and sent them from Victoria. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one to taste and it was divine!

I came up with the idea to make chocolate mousse pots from this pinterest pin. The recipe is super simple only using only two ingredients. The glass pots were also purchased from Sweet Style and featured labels from Charli Mae.

I purchased these cute mini lollypops and caramel rock candy swizzle sticks from Louisa of Little Big Company. The swizzle sticks were a big hit at the party! I was also very honoured to have this party featured by Little Big Company on their blog here.

Charli Mae also made these adorable personalised chocolate wrappers for the party which the guests took home with them.
